Presentation of Long Service Awards
President of the Hospital Broadcasting Association, June Snowden recently paided her first visit to Winchester Hospital Radio. During the visit she presented Long Service Awards to thirteen members of WHR.
Winchester Hospital Radio Chairman Brian Mundy said, "We're delighted to welcome June to the studio. We're very proud of the service we provide to patients and look forward to her taking part in our flagship programme The Sound Remedy. It's also a very special day when we pay tribute to thirteen people who have given such sterling service to the station over the years". In her reply June said, "Hospital Radio is dependent on the hard work and dedication of volunteers. I'm very pleased to be recognising the service of so many people, some of whom have been with Winchester Hospital Radio since its very first day in 1984. I'm also looking forward to meeting some of the listeners who get so much from the broadcasts."
June first recorded a 30 minute interview with Tony Knight for Person to Person, our talks programme. After that she visited patients on the wards and took part in the live Sound Remedy request programme. June then returned to the studio where she went on to meet many of the WHR volunteers before making the formal presentations.
Members receiving their 20-year long service awards were the three founder members, Tony Knight, Steve Feeney and Carole Line. While Janet Arnold, Paul Blitz, Daphne Canning, David Chaffey, Bryan Downham, Sean Kenny, Beatrix Mackey, Janet Packman, John Richards, Steven Wills received 15-year awards.
