Record Library and Office
Brian Jones selects music for his programme from part of our extensive record collection.
Michael Jennings helps to keep our CD database up to date.
On the other side of the room David Addis (right) edits material for a forthcoming programme. While Andy Mace is at work in our general admin area.
We also keep our OB kit and logging machine in the admin area, and thanks to a computer sat in the Computer Systems cupboard, the logging machine (a normal cassette machine with our standard small remote-control modification) allows a whole evening's output to be logged onto a single normal audio cassette. This is done by only starting the cassette when a mic is opened in the on-air studio, and stopping it again as soon as the mic is closed. Pre-set timed recordings can also be made to, for instance, listen to presenters going into IRN for the news, or opting back to Radio 2 at
the end of the day. (software can be downloaded here copyright Paul Blitz)
The Ward OB kit is a flight-case containing a mini-mixer that can be carried up to any of the wards in the hospital and plugged in to one of our land-lines. As long as the switches have been put in the right position in Central Facilities the ward can now be brought up on the mixer just as if it were the Talk Studio, with full talk-back facilities.
